{ Tips for before you get tattooed}
Drinks and Snacks
Bring a cold drink with you to your appointment, ideally water and/or something sugary to keep you hydrated and keep your energy levels up. For longer sessions (2+ hours) bring a snack. Getting tattooed, even if it’s not hurting you too much, still causes reactions within your body which drain your energy reserves. I recommend an energy/cereal bar or some sweets or chocolate.
For day sessions we’ll have a lunch break, so you can bring something with you, or there is a Spar around the corner from the studio.
ID - Challenge 25
Don’t forget your ID! If you look 25 or under I will ask. Without ID you’ll be turned away and your deposit will be lost. (Remember it is against the law to tattoo anyone under the age of 18, regardless of parental consent)
ID needs to be government issued with the holographic ‘pass’ logo, (drivers licence, provisional, passport, etc) I will not accept student ID etc.
Plan Your Aftercare
It’s always good to be prepared! I sell Hustle Butter aftercare balm at my studio and I highly recomend that as it is all natural, but please check the ingredients - if it’s not suitable you may need to order something online, and that’s best done in advance of getting your tattoo or you’ll be missing out on the first couple of vital days of caring for your new piece.
You can also read my Aftercare advice section in advance, so you are fully prepared for what you need to do to take care of your new tattoo.
Other things you may need to buy in advance for tattoo aftercare: Cling film, micropore/skin firendly tape, mild liquid soap such as Simple or Dove, kitchen roll.
Alcohol
Please avoid alcohol in the 24hrs before your tattoo appointment. Even a small amount can make you bleed more and affect the healing of your tattoo. Excessive consumption also will mean you won’t be feeling your best for the process, and will make the tattooing process more difficult for both yourself and the artist.
Wear Appropriate Clothing
Make sure the clothes you wear to the appointment allow easy access to the area being tattooed, e.g: no skinny jeans if it’s a lower leg tattoo, wear a vest if it’s going on the upper arm/shoulder. And of course, don’t wear your favourite items of clothing, in case we get ink on them!
Payment
Payment will be taken at the end of the session, and will need to be either cash or bank transfer. Please be prepared for this in advance, as there aren’t any cashpoints nearby.
Comfort
Feel free to bring your own items to make your tattoo experience more comfortable - especially if you are booked in for a day session! For example a cushion, a blanket, slippers or warm socks, a handheld games console (depending on what position you may need to be tattooed in) headphones for your own music or podcasts etc! Just please make sure you dont bring anything that will disturb the artist while they are working, so please mute phones or anything noisy. When you are being tattooed you need to stay still for long periods of time, so these things can help make your experience a bit more enjoyable.
Anxiety
Nervous about your appointment? Talk to your artist! I want to make sure you have the best experience possible, and if there is anything I can do to put your mind at ease, don’t be afraid to ask.
Be Punctual
You will need to fill out a consent form before your appointment, so please try and arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time. It will ask you to name any medication you are on so either have it memorised or write it down ready. (All information on the consent forms is treated in confidence)
Please plan your journey in advance with plenty of time so you are not rushing, the last thing you need before a tattoo appointment is to be stressed out.
If you arrive late to your appointment it affects the artist’s whole day, even if it’s only by 10 minutes, that could mean they lose out on their lunch break, so please be considerate. Arrivals later than 30 minutes after their appointment time with no prior warning will be turned away and deposit lost. We do not have a phone at the studio, so if you are running late please try to contact the artist via email or instagram message, if it is safe to do so.
